In their own words
Philabundance works to drive hunger from our communities today and end hunger for good by increasing access to nutritious food and addressing the root causes of food insecurity.
Nourishing Neighbors’ support will help Philabundance provide healthy, kid-friendly food to children whenever school meals are not available, ensuring that kids and families have the nutritious food they need to thrive and succeed.
Getting to know Philabundance
Philabundance was founded with the simple belief that no one should go hungry while healthy food goes to waste. Our mission is to drive hunger from our communities today and to end hunger for good. In addition to food distribution, we reduce food waste, increase access to nutritious meals, and tackle the root causes of hunger through programs such as the Philabundance Community Kitchen…
Philabundance's child and family food programs seek to ensure that all children in our nine-county service area within the Greater Philadelphia region have equitable access to nutritious food for life. Philabundance facilitates the following offerings for children that work to address meal gaps and improve food security: the BackPack program, which provides nutrient-dense meals and snacks for children to take home and enjoy when school breakfast and lunch are not available; the Fresh Produce program, which provides fresh fruits and vegetables to children and families during the schoolyear; the Holiday Gap food program, which distributes meals and food to children during winter and spring holiday breaks; the summer LunchBox program, which provides fresh, shelf-stable, and frozen breakfast and lunch meals for kids during summer break, prepared by our Philabundance Community Kitchen chefs; the Healthy Snack program, which enables schools and youth centers to provide healthy grab-and-go options to students; and the School Pantry program, which stocks schools and centers with staple foods for kids and parents to take home.
