Getting to know Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz County

Who they are

Founded in 1972, we are the first food bank in California and second in the United States founded by a Blank Panther group of at UCSC to create a Breakfast for Children Program. At Second Harvest Food Bank, we commit to building a thriving community where everyone has nutritious food and essential services to support their health and well-being.

What the program does

Our school-based pantries serve children and families within the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. These families are able to access these pantries during school drop offs and pickups, granting families access to nutritious, culturally preferred foods they can select according to their household-specific needs at times that are most convenient for them. The number of meals is estimated based on pounds of food distributed through a formula from Feeding America.
