Brighter Bites is a nonprofit that creates communities of health through fresh food by providing families with consistent access to fresh fruits and vegetables, nutrition education, and hands-on opportunities to build healthy eating habits.
Funding from Albertsons Companies will directly support Brighter Bites Bakersfield programming, including the purchase and distribution of fresh produce, nutrition education materials, and culinary demonstrations that empower families to make fresh, nutritious foods part of their everyday lives.
Getting to know Brighter Bites
Brighter Bites’ mission is to create communities of health through fresh food. Our ultimate goal is to improve the long-term health of children and families in under-resourced communities by increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables and providing evidence-based nutrition education that improves food and nutrition security and healthy eating behaviors.
Brighter Bites will provide students and families at eight Bakersfield elementary schools with fresh produce, evidence-based nutrition education, and hands-on food experiences. The program will increase children’s access to nutritious foods while building the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to develop and sustain healthy eating habits.
