Getting to know The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division

Who they are

The Salvation Army exists to meet human needs without discrimination. Across North and Central Illinois, the Division provides food, shelter, youth development, emergency assistance, case management, and other supports that help neighbors address immediate hardship and build greater stability.

What the program does

The Salvation Army works to ensure that no individual—especially no child—goes hungry. From November 2026 through October 2027, we will provide year-round pantry and meal assistance through 43 locations across North and Central Illinois, expand healthy summer meals for children in 2027 when school meals are unavailable, and connect families with case management, benefits enrollment, housing and utility assistance, employment resources, and youth programs that build long-term stability. During summer 2027, participating camps and youth programs will provide safe, welcoming places where children can receive breakfast, lunch, and snacks—and dinner at selected programs—while taking part in STEM, music, recreation, physical activity, gardening, and other enrichment. Food pantries will offer a broad selection of shelf-stable items, dairy, meat, produce, bakery products, and culturally responsive foods, using client-choice distribution where possible to preserve dignity and reduce waste. Mobile feeding and community meal services will extend the program's reach to rural communities, seniors, and families facing transportation or geographic barriers.
